The company was founded in 1988 by Lothar Denzel. At that time, Lothar Denzel worked with 3 employees on 30 m² in the basement of his detached house.
He began with the manufacture of tweezers for ophthalmology. At that time, the company was still called "Lothar Denzel Medizintechnik".
